Abstract

The fire arrester is in the form of a pipe, passing through a wall opening (1, 4) and projecting each side. A separate pipe length (2, 3) fits onto the projection each side, a gasket (6) forming the joint. In the event of a fire, a chemical foam mix expans to seal the opening through the fire arester. This comprises an annular casing (8) of fire resistant material. A ring (12) fits into the bore each end, forming a space between filled with the foam mix (9). This is covered by a protective liner (10), this being fusible and destroyed when the foam expands to fill the casing.
