Abstract
Battery has an orthodox cylindrical shape and a centre carbon electrode which in this case does not extend the full length of the cell as is normal so that damage incurred by insertion of the centre rod and consequent premature erosion of the outer casing by chemical action is avoided. The distance between the base of the cell and the end of the carbon rod is approximately the same as the radial thickness of the electrolyte. The cell is completed by an outer plastic shell, a zinc liner and a kraft paper liner isolating the base of the cell from the contents.
