Abstract

In a process for cleaning the parts of an IC engine in contact with the gases from the crankcase (i.e. the circuit for recycling these gases to the air inlet system), a minor amt. of a liq. organic solvent with a vapour pressure sufficient for it to evaporate rapidly at the operating temp. of the crankcase, is introduced into the oil-filled crankcase. This process allows the air inlet system to be cleaned without dismantling and thus increases the efficiency of the engine and reduces the emission of CO and unburnt hydrocarbons.
