Abstract

An explosive compsn. comprises particles of a highly explosive matl. (I) dispersed in >=10%, based on compsn. of a crosslinked polymer (esp. a polyurethane), (I) being pref. nitro or org. nitrate cpds. esp. (I) is octogen (CH2=N-NO2)4, hexogen (CH2=N-NO2)2, pentrite (O2N-O-H2C)4C or tetryl. The compsn. pref. contains =65 wt.% oxidiser, i.e. KClO4 or NH4ClO4. The present compsns. may contain 19-90% explosive and may further be given various shapes while having reduced porosity and consistency ranging from a high hardness to high flexibility. Prior art compsns. contg. metal carboxylate polymer as main binder and polyurethane elastomer as secondary binder contain no more than 80% explosive.
