Abstract

The machine, partic. for forming compressed bales of wool fibres, has a fraction of the material introduced into a rectangular casing from a hopper. The opening is closed by a movable rectangular section. A lower platen applies a 30 tonne preload. The casing is opened and the remaining wool introduced and the preload re-applied. The precompressed fibre is then subjected to a load of 200 tonnes applied by an upper platen. Loads are applied by hydraulic cylinders. The moving lower platen is locked in place by a system of levers whilst the 200 tonne load is applied.
