Abstract

The instrument may be a ball point pen, the nib of which, when not in use, is stored in a dust sealed sheath. The instrument is contained within a hollow cylinder of which one end is bullet pointed: this latter end is split 'petal' fashion allowing the instrument to emerge under finger press. on the other end and springing closed when the instrument is retracted. The instrument slides axially within its sheath against the action of a coil spring, is ratchet locked in the open posn and has an externally protruding extension forming a plunger at the end opposed to the tip. The plunger within the casing has a resiliently attached arm the end of which projects through the sheath side to lock the plunger when the instrument is in use.
