Abstract

Friction loss-reducing additive is added to a liquid in the form of soluble solid particles having a size range of 5-300 mesh to reduce shear degradation of the additive during passage through a pump. The technique is applicable to well fracturing and other treatment processes, and the additive preferably includes >=20 wt.% in each of the size ranges 5-30 mesh, 40-90 mesh and 100-200 mesh to ensure uniform release of additive.
