Abstract
The fibres, which may melt, wet or dry spun, are first woven into a diagonal web. This is then wound onto a hollow, perforated former and the ends sealed by resin or other adhesive. One end is then cut off to expose its open ends of the filaments, and the cartridge thus formed is placed in a shell, one end being sealed by a circular seal. For reverse osmosis, liquor is pumped up the centre at high pressure and some taken away from the shell. Small molecules, such as those of water, permeate the fibres and run down out of the open ends. Thus the fibres from stable membranes which can be used for dialysis or reverse osmosis.
