Abstract

The piston seal ring (1) has a metal support ring (2) of approximately quadratic cross section. Bonded to the ring are three seal lips (13, 14, 15). Two of the lips are concentric (13, 14), whilst the third one is pointed in an axially opposite direction. One corner (19) of the support ring is chamfered and is not covered by elastic seal ring material. It is in contact with a circular spring clip which is used to retain the seal ring in its location after mounting. Preferably the support ring has a taper on that side of its cross section opposite the sealed surface and also a cylindrical boundary wall, coaxial with the sealed surface.
