Abstract

A bobbin mounted on a spindle is advanced to a winding station (15) where a fabric web (w) is wound onto it at high speed to form a roll, and the roll is advanced to an applicator station (16) where it is engaged by a control roller (21) which rotates it at a lower speed by peripheral contact. An air nozzle then separates the end (T) of the web (w) from the roll to allow a line of adhesive to be applied by an applicator (27) to secure the end of the web to the roll. A photo-sensor detects when the end of the web is detached from the roll and actuates the applicator (27) which pivots on arm (28).
