Abstract

A shuttle-less loom includes a guide track for a weft picker mounted pref. on a belt extending between the toothed wheels, the belt being driven by a drive mechanism which is independent of the rest of the loom but connected to it. The drive mechanism drives a shaft to reciprocate and the shaft is connected via a lever to one end of a crank arm, the other end of which is pivotally connected to a pivoted toothed segment so that the toothed segment is pivotally reciprocated. The pivotal connection of the crank arm on the toothed segment is such that the crank arm moves in a plane essentially parallel to the pivot axis of the toothed segment so that movement of the weft picker is unaffected by movement of the guide track. The drive mechanism includes a cam drive arrangement and the motion of the mechanism transmitting drive from the drive mechanism to the weft pickers allows large diameter cams to be used, thereby reducing wear.
