Abstract

A coating compsn. of improved resistance to attack by bacteria or fungi comprises (a) water insoluble, film forming binder selected from oleoresinous cpd. and/or linear polymer obtd. by emulsion polymerising ethylenically unsatd. monomers and (b) 0-1-3 wt.% of a polyoxymethyleneoxazolidine biocide selected from cpds. of formula: where R is H, 1-6C alkyl, (halo)phenyl, or -(CH2O)mCH2-OH, m is 0-2 and n is 1-4, R' is 1-6C alkyl or -CH2OH. The biocides are thoroughly compatible with the binders and are resistant to sulphide staining, provide excellent and prolonged resistance to attacked by the micro-organisms without affecting the colour, pH, viscosity and other physical props. of the compsns.
