Abstract

The housing (1) in the alternator body is slightly deeper than the width of the bearing race (3) and is stepped. At the bottom, the diameter (2) is approximately equal to that of the race, in order to centralise the assembly. The bottom itself is recessed to provide relief. The sides are also relieved, giving a larger diameter (4) part way down the housing. The race is fitted into position and the relieved diameter on the side filled with an anaerobic synthetic resin, hardening in the absence of air. To hold the assembly while it sets, small tags (5) are bent inwards.
