Abstract
The parent patent describes an aqs. coating compsn. for flexible substrates, e.g. hydrocarbon rubbers, thermoplastic and microcellular polyurethanes, and thermosetting and thermoplastic polyesters, contg. 5-50% film-forming components, including a thermosetting acrylic resin. In this addition the film-forming components consist of (A) 70-95 esp. 85-90 wt. %, based on wt. of film-forming components, acrylic polymer contg. (1) 19-44 (20-32) esp. 26 wt. % styrene and/or 1-4C alkyl methacrylate, (2) 50-75 (55-65) esp. 61 wt. % 6-12C alkyl methacrylate and/or 2-12C alkyl acrylate, (3) 5-20 (8-12) esp. 10 wt. % hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate with a 2-4 alkyl group, and (4) 1-20 (1-5) esp. 3 wt. % alpha, beta-ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid, and (B) 5-30 esp. 10-15 wt. %, compatible alkylated melamine/formaldehyde resin with a 1-8C alkyl group. The film-forming components are adjusted to pH 7-10 with ammonia or an amine. Gives strongly bonded coatings with a high tensile strength, e.g. 70.3-140.6 kg/cm2 and elongation, e.g. 50-110%. The coatings cure under relatively mild conditions, and have a good durability.
