Abstract
This patent is an addition to Patent No. 1528063. A cooling tower for e.g. cooling water with air, has direct and indirect cooling element(s), the indirect cooling element being mounted above the direct cooling part. The liq. to be cooled can be fed to the coolers either in series or in parallel. Each cooling element is cooled by a separate parallel gas stream, which can be induced by a natural draught chimney or forced by fans. At least one of the gas flows can be regulated either by adjustable shutters or by control of the fans. After the parallel air streams have passed through the cooling elements, they are allowed to mix in a chamber fitted with deflectors to ensure homogenous mixing. Used in liq./gas cooling towers, e.g. cooling water with atmospheric air. Installation of one cooling element above the other reduces the cost. By having direct and indirect cooling element, control of the humidity of the outlet air is possible, thus reducing the amt. of 'mist' formed in adverse conditions.
