Abstract
Photogenerator cpds. of formula (I) where Ar = anthryl-, naphthyl-, pyrinyl-, indolyl-, N-alkyl-2-carbazyl-, julolidinyl- gps. or substituted analogues of these in which the substituents can donate electrons to relatively electron-poor centres in the cpd., X = -NO2 or Cl, and n = 1-5. (I) can be used in conjunction with an insulating polymeric matrix, esp. poly-N-vinyl carbazole, to give layers suitable for making electrophotographic (xerographic) image plates. (I) is e.g. 1-(2,4,6-trinitrostyryl)pyrene, 9-(2,4,6-trinitrostyryl)-anthracene, N-ethyl-3-methyl-5-(2,4,6-trinitrostyryl)indole and 9-(2,4,6-trinitrostyryl)julolidine.
