Abstract

Aq. compsns. for injection, having a prolonged duration of action, contain the peptide of formula (I) H.Ala.Gly.Cys.Lys.Asn.Phe.Phe.Trp.Lys.Thr.Phe.Thr.Ser.Cys.OH (I) in the form of a complex produced by adding an inorg. salt (esp. halides, phosphates, pyro-phosphates or polyphosphates) of Ca, Co, Mg, Mn, Al or Zn; and/or a polymer such as polyoxygelatine, polyvinyl-pyrrolidone, carboxymethyl-cellulose or sulphnoc acid or phosphoric acid esters of alginic acid, dextran, polyphenols or polyalcohols. Esp. pref. is the addition of polyphloretin phosphate to (I). (I) inhibits are secretion of growth hormone but the action is short-lived when (I) is used as such. As a complex its activity persists for many hours. The compsns. are used for treating diabetes mellitus, acromegalia, and angiopathia and as diagnostic reagents.
