Abstract

The furnace is particularly for firing oil-bearing shale and bituminous rock in order to recover gases and condensate, from to bottom, and has a vertical casing whose lower end is immersed in water, a lower grille above which the solid combustible material is placed and a gas intake orifice between the grille and the water. The casing (1) is fixed, while the grille (5a, 5b) can be opened, and means are provided (3, 10) in the water below the furnace for removal of the extinguished residue. Intake pipes (24a, 24b) can be mounted below the grille for the condensate, there being surfaces inclined towards them and supported on them, and pivoting on the free end of the grille sections opposite to those at which the grille sections pivot.
