Abstract

Shoes made by locating a prefabricated (leather) upper in two successive moulds, where the first applies an injection moulded cover to the sole and the lower parts of the upper including the reinforcement behind the heel, and the second applies the working sole to the underside of the first shot. The successive mouldings are opt. in different materials and/or colours the edging being relatively flexible, e.g. PVC, and the sole more wear resistant, e.g. polyurethane. The method is esp. for building and decorating boots having heels reinforced with steel. The overmoulding of the sides of the upper seals the structure against leaks between the welt and the sole, pref. also provides protective stiffening and padding.
