Abstract

Appts. for measuring the activity of a sample contg. >=1 radioactive source, partic. Tc-99m, used for medical purposes, comprises (a) an air ionisation chamber, of 4 - type geometry, divided into two ionisation chambers each of type -2 geometry, arranged symmetrically w.r.t. a median plane, hinged together in such a way that the chamber can be opened to permit introduction of the sample in a suitable recess situated in the median plane; (b) appropriate electric equipment for connecting the two ionisation chambers of type-2 geometry in parallel and for applying appropriate potentials to their electroes; and (c) a circuit for measuring the ionisation current created in the ionisation chamber due to the presence of a sample. Greater ease of introduction of the sample either in the hypodermic syringe just before use or in a bottle contg. the bulk sample obtd. by passing the physiological serum through an exchange column contg. Mo-99 is possible.
