Abstract
A system for developing a non-woven fabric, to be used as the outer covering of a tennis ball core, uses a non-woven bi-component of nylon 6 and nylon 66, polyester, acrylic, wool, rayon and polypropylene fibres, which is needle bonded to give a pile surface structure, which is then given a second needling to compress the pile into a compact fabric. The process give a fabric with the character and handle of a conventional Melton cloth, but with resilience to resist distortion in use.
