Nonporous frit for glazing white ware of low thermal expansion, producing a vitreous fluid on melting which crystallises into a low thermal expansion semicrystalline glaze, thermal exp. coeff. 5 x 10-6/degrees C) comprises in wt.% Li2O 4-27, MgO 0-6, Al2O3 17-40, SiO2 36-70, ZrO2 0-5, provided that 0.74 pts. of MgO replace 1 pt. Li2O when MgO is used, with a min. of 4% Li2O and provided that Li2O + MgO + Al2O3 + SiO2 = 80-95% and ZrO2 + flux = 5-20 and the flux is B2O3, K2O, F, PbO, Na2O, CaO, SrO, ZnO, BaO, up to 5% of each, or their mixture.
