Abstract

1375546 Open-end spinner: drive means PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 3 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 53229/70 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] A spinning unit for an open end spinning machine includes a drive shaft which is supported by two air bearings situated externally of the shaft, and which carries a spinning rotor and the rotor of a drive motor. A shaft 13 is supported by air bearings 11, 12, and carries a spinning rotor 31 and a rotor 17 within stator 23 of induction motor 1. Each bearing includes a glass or plastics journal element 15 resiliently supported by rubber O-rings 16. Each bearing may be of a static or aerodynamic type, or may change from an aerostatic to an aerodynamic type as the shaft speed increases. The bearings may be arranged between the two rotors. Shaft mounted plate 26 forms an air thrust bearing with wall 28. For Figure see next column
