Abstract

Ingress of damaging insects/microorganisms is prevented by the use of an air and moisture type container, cabinet, vehicle, etc. at ambient temp. or below, in which a partial vacuum is created and maintained by continuous air extraction either with built-in external vacuum pumps or using suction nozzles and detachable pumps. The resultant oxygen starvation prevents growth /activity of such vectors/agents. All perishable foods can be so handled/stored and in addition similar low pressure plant may be used in fruit/vegetable juice prodn. and in dairy product mfr., esp. cheese and milk powder.
