Abstract

Appts. for impregnation of porous solid bodies esp. for prodn. of cermets with a melt in which the bodies, fixed to supports are plunged into the melt, the supports, and the bath being heated inside the heating device so that before entering the melt the bodies to be treated reach the melt temp. The bath is then moved up a ramp so that the bodies enter the melt slowly to permit the melt to drive out the air in the body. The preheating obviates the necessity to impregnate the body first with an air repellant which can be driven out by the melt and also overcomes the problem of spills of cast metal on the surface, since the bodies are removed from the melt by gradually sliding the bath down the ramp. The bodies may be metal of ceramic.
