Abstract
Floating boom comprising a vertical flexible curtain suspended beneath a tubular buoyancy chamber and having anchorage hooks or loops secured along the bottom of the curtain to engage individual links at frequent intervals along a chain carried within an antifouling pocket also secured along the base of the curtain. The chain may be engaged by rigid (metal hooks or tough flexible (polyester filament) straps. The skirts may be reinforced locally or by a continuous stiffening strip where the chain anchorages are mounted. The curtain is pref. made of a fabric impregnated with a mixt. of PVC and nitrile rubber. The anchorages maintain the distribution of the chain along the base of the boom and the surrounding pocket inhibits the intervening portions of chain from fouling each other or other objects and causing the boom to buckle or kink. The chain may be used to assist in dragging the boom.
