The mineral fibres (asbestos) have good resistance to high temps. and the fast binder, which is an org material, provides rapid setting while the slow binder, a natural mineral esp. magnesia cement, provides hardening to give good mechanical strength. The mixt. is factory prepd. and then mixed with water on site. The hardened body has a cellular structure to give light weight, fire resistance and sound insulating props.
