Abstract

Extruding lightweight thermoplastics foam, e.g. for window frames, in which foamable thermoplastics is extruded through a mould, expanded from the mould to a density >=160.2 kg/m3 and then pressed through a calibrating (shaping) unit to harden with an increase in density of is not 48 kg/m3. Pref. material is polystyrene esp. with pentane (0.2-5.0% wt) and/or CH3Cl as expanding agent (total 2-20%) and citric acid and NaHCO3 as seeding agents.
