Abstract

Sterilisation process, is intended for a machine which makes and packs small individual bags with a sterile liq., such as milk. The machine comprises a reservoir for the sterile milk with a filling column extending downwards. A plastic strip is guided from its reel by various rollers and both its faces are exposed to radiation from U.V. lamps. The strip passes through a dip tank of sterilising liq., and is then closed around the filling column to form a sheath which is welded longitudinally; it is filled with milk, welded transversely and cut into individual bags. Before putting the machine into service it is sterilised; the openings for the plastic strip are sealed and a detergent washing soln. introduced. This is followed by a water rinse which, in turn, is replaced by a sterilising liq. After a further rinse, hot sterile air is passed through to accelerate drying. The washing and sterilising of the components of the machine are thus easily effected at a temp. 100 degrees C, without the need for additional costly plant. The dip tank is then refilled with the antiseptic liq. and the forming and filling of the bags proceeds.
