Abstract

The vertical straining grille of a drain trap for industrial or domestic waste effluent is fitted with a mechanised clearing device to prevent build-up of solids and consequent blockage. An elevator screw is fitted in the vertical axis of the grille in a perforated casing which is open at the bottom to collect solids guided in by lateral deflectors and an inclined base. The elevator screw is driven by an electric motor which can be hand-operated or automatically switched on by a timining mechanism. Expensive manual clearing of the grille, which can be both hazardous and unpleasant, is thus eliminated.
