Abstract

Fibres are fed into the spinning rotor pref. via a feed tube in a closure plate of the rotor, so that they impinge on a rotating skirt before being spun into a yarn by the fibre collecting surface of the rotor. The end of yarn is withdrawn through a central delivery tube in the closure plate and the skirt is freely rotatably mounted around the delivery tube by bearings. Pref. the skirt is rotated by contact with the yarn being drawn through the delivery tube. The skirt operates to open and align the fibres, a better quality yarn and reducing end breaks.
