Abstract
Manufacture of metal articles, from powder. Very long metal sections and thin metal cross sections are made by deposition of molten metal on a substrate followed by separation of the metal from the substrate, the molten metal particles, atomised by a gas, being directed to coalesce into a coherent layer which is submitted to heat treatment either before or after separation from substrate. The gas used may be an inert gas, N2, H2, a combustion or blast furnace gas or a mixt. of gases. The deposited metal layer may be held in an inert or reducing atmosphere until it is compacted by hot working. The thickness of the layer may be between 0.25 and 9 mm. and may be reduced by 10-60% on compacting. Compacting may be effected by hot rolling. An anti-adherence agent, e.g. graphite in oil suspension, may be used as a thin film or the substrate surface.
