Abstract

Medicament compsn. for topical application to the skin contains a solution of an active cpd. in a solvent contg. 1-100 wt.% of an N-lower alkyl -2-pyrrolidone. The lower alkyl gp. is pref. methyl, ethyl or n-butyl. The preferred solvent is a mixture of 5-35 wt.% of the pyrrolidone with ethanol and/or water. Typical active cpds. include germicides or fungicides, anti-perspirants (esp. those contg. anticholinergic agents), antiinflammatories and sun creams. The active cpds. usually comprise 0.01-10 wt.%, esp. 0.1-5 wt.%, of the compsn. Solvent system which facilitates the cutaneous absorption of active cpds. These solutions may be formulated for application as lotions, creams, pommades, pastes etc. using classical ingredients (thickeners, preservatives, perfumes, colourants).
