Abstract

Headbox and method in the headbox of a paper machine for controling angular profile of the cross-directed fiber orientation of the paper web produced in it. A pulp suspension stream F is guided via a lip channel 13 in the headbox, from which a lip stream J is directed via a lip opening 13C toward the forming wire or toward a gap between the forming wires. The uneven drying-shrinkage profile formed during drying of the paper web being produced from said lip stream J is compensated and crossflows in the pulp suspension streams J are reduced. This is carried out in such a way that the flow cross sections of the lip channel 13 in the cross direction are about 1 to 10% larger in the center region of lip channel 13 than in the edge regions of the lip channel. A sufficiently even basis weight profile of the web (Figure 2B) is achieved in this case with a cross profile of the lip opening 13C of the lip channel 13 that is more uniform than previously. <IMAGE>
