Abstract

The exhaust gas turbocharger for an internal combustion engine has a main turbine which is driven by the exhaust gases of an engine and a compressor which in turn is driven by the turbine and which compresses the air fed to the engine. An additional turbine is connected by its inlet to the outlet of the compressor via a valve. This valve is opened in order to reduce the outlet pressure of the compressor. This additional turbine may be coupled to the compressor but can also drive an auxiliary unit.
