Abstract
An improved method of removing discolourants from a clay by a procedure that includes the step of separating tiny, weakly susceptible particles of magnetic attraction from an aqueous clay-water suspension containing such particles in small concentrations, with tiny ore particles substantially non-magnetic, subjecting said suspension to magnetic separation in an intense magnetic field; wherein the improvement comprises: subjecting said suspension to treatment with a chemical release agent to remove contaminating particles from said suspension before said magnetic separation step, thereby selectively dispersing said contaminating particles, thereby facilitating said magnetic separation .
