Abstract
Method of preparing intermediates for the production of purine sugar derivatives of formula (II): **(See formula)** wherein R1 is a mono-lower alkoxylamino or lower alcoholylthio amino group, and R2 is a hydrogen atom, an amino or lower monoalkoxylamino group with the proviso that one of R1 and R2 is always an amino or alcoholic group, and Z is a blocking group, comprising the steps of: (a) reacting the suitably substituted purine of formula (V): **(See formula)** with an acylating agent; (b) condensing the resulting compound of formula (IV): **(See formula)** where at least one of Y1 and Y2 is a protected group R2CO (A) N-, where A is a hydrogen atom or a lower alcohol group, and R3 is an alcohol group having 1 to 20 atoms of carbon, with a blocked arabinose halide, of formula (VI): **(See formula)** where Z is as defined above; and (c) deacyl the resulting purine sugar, of formula (III): **(See formula)** wherein Y1, Y2 and Z are as defined above, by hydrolysis under basic conditions.
