Abstract

Web impurities, e.g. vegetable waste, nap and short fibres, are removed from a carded web by a cleaning device comprising a driving cylinder 1 and a hollow pressure cylinder 3 resting tangentially thereon. The hollow pressure cylinder 3 is positioned by retaining rollers 4. The retaining rollers 4 are positioned on that side of the plane containing the axes of cylinders 1 and 3 towards which the circumferential portions of the cylinders move directly after parting their line of tangency. The cylinders 1 and 3 and retaining rollers 4 occupy relative positions such that the line of tangency between cylinders 1 and 3 is on the same side as the retaining rollers with respect to the vertical line passing through the axis of the driving cylinder. The hollow pressure cylinder is traversed through its centre by an application bar 5 which is mounted (e.g. by pressure springs 7) on the machine frame so as to be movable transverse to its length. The bar 5 presses on the hollow pressure cylinder 3 exclusively via application rollers 6 which are suspended by elastic means 10. These rollers 6 are placed at intervals along the bar. The application rollers 6 are positioned so that their generatrix of contact with the pressure cylinder 3 is adjacent to the plane containing the axes of cylinders 1 and 3 on that side where the retaining rollers 4 are located. In operation the pressure cylinder 3 and the application bar 5 are able to move, in sequence, away from the driving roller 1.
