Circular knitting machine comprising a hollow needle cylinder, needles mounted on said cylinder, elements cooperating with said needles for the production of fabric, and an elongated cylinder concentric with and extending below the needle cylinder and located to receive the produced tissue, characterized by the existence of a sliding piston in said elongated cylinder, tissue holding means supported by said piston and comprising a cup and a holding piece arranged to catch the produced tissue, means that supply air to lift the piston and the clamping means to the upper end of said elongated cylinder adjacent to the needles, means that effect the opening of the clamping means when the piston and the clamping means are thus raised, and means for directing air against the tissue produced to bring the tissue into said cup, said cup and said elongated cylinder having openings which are aligned and located on the piston when the piston and the holding means are thus raised to provide escape from the air cup directed against the tissue produced.
