Abstract

Components such as paddles 5 in a rotating drum are retained by carrier elements 4 in order to improve the thermal protection of the walls 1 of the drum. The carrier elements 4 are hollow members provided with lateral openings and are filled with a fine resistant insulating substance 3 which secures the elements 4 in place. Connecting rods 14 may be arranged in the hollow chambers defined by the carrier elements 4, the rods being welded onto the walls 1 of the drum and providing the carrier elements with an additional fixing. The rotating drum is used in the heat treatment of fine grain solids. Alternatively the container may be stationary, e.g. a cyclone.
