Improvements introduced in vitreous tubes for high pressure mercury vapor lamps, having at least one end of a flattened part comprising a hermetically sealed or sealed portion, said sealed part comprising a pressure closure extending through said tube sealing it tightly and constituting the termination of said flattened end portion inwardly, said flattened end portion also having an unsealed portion comprising a raised area of generally U-shaped configuration, which is confused with said pressure closure surrounding it partially and constitutes the adjacent marginal limb segments of said flattened end portion.
