Abstract

A pressure regulator comprises regulating chamber 14 and balancing chamber 17 separated by membrane 13, calibration spring 18 located in balancing chamber 17 and acting on membrane 13 to set the regulator operating pressure, and plug 19, connected to and moveable by membrane 13, for opening/closing a gas inlet 15. The membrane 13 moves as a result of pressure changes in regulating chamber 14 and the action of spring 18 to allow controlled opening/closing of inlet 15, and the regulator further comprises detachable compression member 20 which loads spring 18 in a first condition to establish a first regulator operating pressure and which is removable to allow spring 18 to adopt a second loaded condition and set a second regulator operating pressure. Member 20 may comprise plate 21 having pins 22 which extend into balancing chamber 17 and engage spring 18, and may be formed as a single plastics piece (see fig. 4). Member 20 may be held on the regulator by handle 27 or an elastic securing member (see fig. 5). The respective first and second operating pressures may be 37 and 22 millibars, for controlling the distribution of LPG and methane gases respectively.
