THE ENERGY ABSORPTION DEVICE CONSISTS OF A BODY DEFINING A LONGITUDINAL SLOT THAT PASSES THROUGH IT TO ACCOMMODATE TWO LAYERS AT LEAST OF ROPE MATERIAL IN A SEALED UNION. THE LAYERS CAN BE MOVED IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS, SO, IN CASE OF DEMAND FOR ENERGY ABSORPTION, THE ROPE MATERIAL MOVES IN RELATION TO THE ENERGY ABSORPTION DEVICE, AND THE FRICTION PRODUCED BETWEEN THE ROPE AND THE DEVICE CONTROLS FORCE APPLIED TO THE OBJECT. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH A SYSTEM TO INCREASE THE WIDTH OF THE SLOT AFTER STOPPING THE OBJECT, TO REDUCE FRICTION AND ALLOW THE OBJECT TO KEEP MOVING IN A CONTROLLED WAY.
