Description
- Organizers and containers consisting of stacked modules that can be connected (fastened) together are commonly used accessories for storing various elements, additionally facilitating access to these elements. Currently, there are various types of such organizers available on the market, differing in the way of placing and locking the subsequent modules.
- One known type of modular organizers with locking latches are those in which the covers of individual modules connect with the bodies by means of locking latches, which allows to access each of the modules easily without the need to disconnect them. However, such solution has a negative effect on the stability and tightness of the organizer module system.
- The second known type of said organizers are those in which the bodies of individual modules are connected to each other, which ensures high stability and tightness of the system, but makes it difficult to use individual modules, because it only allows to open the module located at the top of the system.
-
EP2130451A1 discloses a carrying case with a locking latch that comprises a latch body pivotally hinged to a bottom case shell and a locking element pivotally mounted to the latch body. Said locking element is configured to engage with a top case shell that operates as a cover. This locking latch is only designed to lock both parts of the given case and is not suitable for connecting multiple modules put in a stack that can be carried all together. -
DE202016103775U1 discloses a stackable container system in which adjacent containers can be interconnected to form a stack. Each container in the system is equipped with additional locking latches mounted on the side walls that serve that function. The locking latch disclosed in this document is a single piece element pivotally secured in a bottom body to which a cover or lid is attached. The locking latch is configured to engage with a bottom body of a container that is above the container to which said locking latch is mounted. - However, the locking latch of the modular organizer which would allow to combine abovedescribed functions (high stability and ease of access to individual modules) in one product is currently unknown. In order to overcome this problem, a locking latch for a modular container offering a combination of said features has been developed.
- The subject of the invention is therefore a modular container, in particular a modular organizer, comprising a body, a cover pivotally attached to the body, and a locking latch for interconnecting containers or organizers arranged in a stack. The locking latch comprises an upper part, a lower part and an axle of the locking latch, wherein the upper part and the lower part are mounted separately on the axle of the locking latch in a way enables independent movement of said parts, wherein one part of the locking latch has mounting tabs by witch the locking latch is secured in the cover, while both parts of the locking latch are provided with at least one catch for snapping on the body such that the one part is configured for snapping on the body of the first container or organizer in the stack and the other part is configured for snapping on the body of the second, adjacent container or organizer in the stack.
- Preferably, the mounting tabs are provided on the lower part of the locking latch.
- Preferably, the mounting tabs are located off the axle of the locking latch, preferably above said axle.
- Preferably, the mounting tabs point outside the locking latch, along the axle of the locking latch and extend beyond its length.
- Preferably, the axle of the locking latch is made of metal or plastic.
- The locking latch is applicable to modular organizers in such a way that the tabs of the lower part are mounted in the grooves of the cover of the organizer module, while the lower part of the locking latch is used for connecting with the snap (catch) on the body of the container on which the locking latch is mounted, and the upper part is used for snapping on the body of the next container placed on the first container.
- In such an assembly, the locking latch of the invention has the feature of connecting the modules with each other, protecting the modules against undesirable opening and the easy access feature, called " Quick Access System", enabling access to the contents of individual modules without having to disconnect them.
- The invention is illustrated in an exemplary embodiment with reference to the drawings, in which the individual figures show:
-
Fig. 1 shows the inventive locking latch with individual parts thereof indicated, where:- 1 - lower part of the locking latch
- 2 - upper part of the locking latch
- 3 - axle of the locking latch.
-
Fig. 2 - front view of the locking latch -
Fig 3 - side view of the locking latch -
Fig 4 - top view of the locking latch -
Fig 5 - the locking latch mounted on the modular container, wherein- 5a, both parts of the locking latch are snapped on the container bodies - protection against opening,
- 5b the upper part of the locking latch is unlocked - the ability to disconnect or connect the top module,
- 5c the lower part of the locking latch is unlocked - the ability to access the contents of the bottom module without disconnecting the top module,
- 5d shows a side view of the locking latch in the secured condition.
- 1. The feature of connecting different modules with each other into an interconnected system. This feature is useful, for example, to transport multiple modules at once easily.
The locking latch is mounted on the cover of said container by means of mounting tabs (4) of the lower part (1) of the locking latch, located in the assembly position, above the axle (3) of the locking latch. The second, upper part (2) of said locking latch is connected to the body of the second container, located above the first container which forms the base of the kit, thus enabling the connection of successive stacked modules. This connection method allows to connect any number of modules of the same or different sizes but equipped with the same assembly and locking system. - 2. Easy access feature referred to as " Quick Access System".
When the upper part (2) of the locking latch, mounted on the cover of the container below, is fastened by the catches (5) on the body of the upper container, the lower part (1) of the locking latch is unlocked, i.e. it is not connected with the snap of the lower container body. In this position, the mounting tabs (4) of the lower part (1) of the locking latch are shifted in the mounting holes of the cover towards the interior of the container. Such configuration enables opening the cover of each of the individual fastened modules of the system freely, without the need to disconnect and disassemble these modules. This solution reduces workspace needed for using the organizer and improves the work ergonomics. - 3. The feature of securing the contents of the container.
The organizer also has the feature of securing against undesirable movement of the containers, accidental detachment of connected modules, and - due to firm pressing the cover against the body on each side - ensuring high tightness against water and dust. To this end, the lower part (1) of the locking latch can be snapped by means of catches (6) on the catch of the container body to the cover of which said locking latch is attached. Such a position of the locking latch, in which both the upper part (2) and lower part (1) thereof are lowered and snapped, allows for additional protection of the container cover against deformation or coming off from the body, which is useful, for example, when transporting connected modules. As a result, the possibility of the contents pouring off e.g. from chamber to chamber, which are included in the tool box or organizer, , is eliminated. - It is clear that the cover of the box or organizer is connected to the body by means of rear hinges and usually also by front locking latches/snaps. On the other hand, the function of the locking latch is to firmly connect each side of the container with other ones and, in addition, to enable its safe connection with other modules.
