Definitions
- the present invention relates to an aerodynamic hump for a garment, preferably sports garment, in particular for a suit or jacket for a motorcyclist, a cyclist, a skier or the like.
- hump in a motorcyclist suit was born essentially for aerodynamic needs in order to connect the helmet with the suit in the shoulder area of the motorcyclist, even if over time other functions have been added to this function such as the containment function of components of the airbag (electronics, sensors, cylinder) and possibly moisturizing liquid for the pilot as well as the aesthetic function and/or advertising vehicle.
- each hump is tailor made for each pilot based on the needs and characteristics of both the pilot (such as, for example, the size of the helmet, the driving position , etc.), that of the vehicle, as well as the corresponding aerodynamic tests made.
- This need for customization requires to modify/adapt the mold of each hump, with a consequent increase in costs.
- the humps of known type are generally made by injection molding or thermoforming. Advantageously, in this way it is possible to obtain a body presenting one or more internal cavities intended for housing components of the airbag.
- these humps are particularly heavy and expensive, as well as being extremely laborious/difficult to customize since they substantially require a mold for each shape and size of the hump to be made.
- the housings for the airbag components provide for the creation inside the hump of handmade inserts, which are not aesthetically pleasing, as well as unprofessional.
- the replacement of the known types of humps in the suit is a rather complicated operation as it requires a series of rather laborious processes, also considering that the rear area of the suit is generally intended to receive advertising and/or identification writings from sponsors.
- WO 02/080715 describes a multifunctional device, in particular for motorcyclists, which is formed by a support base, which acts as a protective shield for the motorcyclist's back, and on which a series of elements can be removably attached, for example a protruding aerodynamic wing, an indicator light, a container for liquids or ventilation means.
- the device can be applied entirely outside the motorcycle suit or it can be applied under the suit itself (in particular between the back and the suit): for example, in the case of aerodynamic wing or indicator light, the entire device is mounted externally with respect to the motorcycle suit, while in the case of a container for liquids, the entire device is mounted below the suit, between the suit and the back of the motorcyclist.
- WO2007/116377 describes a motorcycle suit comprising a hump-shaped rear aerodynamic appendage.
- this appendix is formed by a first portion which is permanently fixed externally to the suit and, within said first portion, a body which has a convex external surface is then removable.
- heat exchange means are housed inside said body, for example a Peltier cell, which are then connected with a plurality of peripheral cooling elements which are inserted in special pockets present on the motorcycle suit, and for this purpose to cool specific portions of the body of the motorcyclist wearing the suit.
- the entire hump - i.e. both the first portion and the body housing the heat exchange means - are fixed to the outer surface of the suit.
- the first portion is configured to mate with a single standard and predefined shape body.
- EP 2 671 463 describes a motorcycle suit with which a soft material undersuit is associated.
- the undergarment garment has a pocket which is defined in the area of the back of the wearer and inside which a rigid hump-shaped element is positioned; more in detail, moreover, the hump-shaped element houses a source of pressurized gas and an electronic unit for activating inflatable elements provided on the suit.
- the entire hump which is made/defined by a single piece, is completely housed inside a pocket which is however defined in an under-garment garment, which therefore is intended to be worn underneath of the suit.
- the object of the present invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump for a garment, preferably a sport garment and in particular for a motorcycle suit, which eliminates the aforementioned drawbacks present in traditional solutions.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump whose replacement inside the motorcycle clothing is quick and easy.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump whose shape can be customized simply, quickly and inexpensively.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which, in particular in the context of sporting competitions, allows for rapid development.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which has high aerodynamic characteristics and at the same time defines an optimal housing for airbag components.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which allows to separate its aerodynamic function from that of housing the components of the airbag or other elements.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which defines a housing for airbag components and which, at the same time, allows a quick and easy replacement of the hump.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which can be easily, quickly and with low costs.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which can be produced, at least in part, in series and quickly and efficiently.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which allows to obtain a pleasant overall aesthetic effect and which gives the observer the sensation of facing a high quality solution, both aesthetically and functionally.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which results in high functional standards and at the same time of affordable cost, thus allowing the possibility of its diffusion on a large scale.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump which is an improvement and/or alternative with respect to traditional solutions.
- Another object of the invention is to propose an aerodynamic hump with an alternative characterization, both in functional and implementation terms, with respect to the traditional ones.

- This can for example be achieved by means of a plurality of shaped openings (for example with slots), integrated and/or associated to said base body 4 and/or to said covering body 6, within which corresponding engagement members (for example screws) can be moved, integrated and/or associated with said base body 4 and/or with said covering body 6 and this in order to move said covering body 6 forward or backward with respect to said base body and thus be able to modify the overall aerodynamic profile of said hump 2 always using the same covering body 6.
- the base body 4 has, at its external surface 22, a slightly hollowed portion 9, which thus defines a seat for the interlocking engagement of the covering body 6.
- said covering body 6 can also be fixed directly to the (only) portion 10 with a substantially laminar development by means of traditional rapid coupling means, preferably by means of clips, rivets , buttons (for example mushroom-shaped), velcro, zip, etc.
- the rapid coupling means are mounted on the portion 10.
- the solution according to the present invention is particularly advantageous since the customization of the hump is extremely easy and quick since it is sufficient to select and apply the most suitable/appropriate covering body 6 above the portion 10 of the garment 3, without thus having to modify or open the garment at the area 13, preferably pocket-shaped, which covers or inside which the base body 4 is inserted.
- the same base body 4 always remains inserted within the pocket-shaped area 13.
- the aforesaid portion 10 of the garment 3, which is clamped between the base body 4 and the covering body 6, can comprise one or more layers, preferably made of natural or synthetic leather, or in fabric or other suitable covering used to make motorcycle clothing.
- the portion 10 of the garment 3 can be made entirely or partially of elastic material.
- the present invention also includes a garment 3, preferably a motorcycle suit, provided with a hump 2 like the one described above and in which said portion 10, which is clamped between the external covering body 6 and the underlying internal base body 4, belongs to said garment.
- the underlying internal base body 4 is housed inside a pocket 13 of the garment 3 and, therefore, said portion 10 crossed by the fastening means - which secure the external covering body 6 to the underlying internal base body 4 - is defined by the outermost part that defines said pocket.
- the present invention also relates to a method for identifying and/or defining the aerodynamic hump 2 for a garment 3, preferably sport garment, in particular for a suit or jacket for a motorcyclist, cyclist, skier or the like, which is optimized based on the needs and characteristics of the pilot and/or that of the vehicle and/or the corresponding aerodynamic tests.
- said method provides for:
- Hump 2 has been described mainly in its application in a motorcycle suit, however it is understood that it can also be applied in a garment usable in any environment where, during the performance of a certain gesture, the wearer moves at high speed in an uncovered position, that is, in contact with the air he is passing through.
- the solution according to the present invention differs from WO 02/080715 , WO 2007/116377 and EP 2 671 463 in that none of these describes an aerodynamic device in which a portion of the garment is clamped between an underlying body of base, positioned below said portion, and a covering body, which is positioned above said portion, and in which the covering body is removably constrained, by means of the fastening means which pass through said portion of the garment, to the basic body.
- This solution is particularly advantageous in that the customization of the hump is extremely easy and rapid since it is sufficient to select and apply the most suitable/appropriate covering body above the portion of the garment, below which it always remains the same. basic body.

Description
- The present invention relates to an aerodynamic hump for a garment, preferably sports garment, in particular for a suit or jacket for a motorcyclist, a cyclist, a skier or the like.
- The idea of positioning a hump in the rear area of a motorcyclist garment, in particular of a motorcyclist suit, is known in order to allow the pilot, when assuming the "egg" shape, to obtain a more effective penetration. aerodynamics in the area of the rear helmet.
- The use of the hump in a motorcyclist suit was born essentially for aerodynamic needs in order to connect the helmet with the suit in the shoulder area of the motorcyclist, even if over time other functions have been added to this function such as the containment function of components of the airbag (electronics, sensors, cylinder) and possibly moisturizing liquid for the pilot as well as the aesthetic function and/or advertising vehicle.
- The fact that the main function of the hump is the aerodynamic one requires that, especially in the competitive field, each hump is tailor made for each pilot based on the needs and characteristics of both the pilot (such as, for example, the size of the helmet, the driving position , etc.), that of the vehicle, as well as the corresponding aerodynamic tests made. This need for customization requires to modify/adapt the mold of each hump, with a consequent increase in costs.
- Furthermore, at present, it is particularly laborious to adapt and modify the molds of the standard shape and size humps so as to customize them according to the pilot and the vehicle.
- The humps of known type are generally made by injection molding or thermoforming. Advantageously, in this way it is possible to obtain a body presenting one or more internal cavities intended for housing components of the airbag. However, these humps are particularly heavy and expensive, as well as being extremely laborious/difficult to customize since they substantially require a mold for each shape and size of the hump to be made.
- Furthermore, in some types of known humps, installation and relative fixing by means of screws, inside the hollow area delimited by the hump, of a box or suitable partitions in plastic material can be provided in order to define a space for the housing the airbag module. Still, in other known solutions, the housings for the airbag components provide for the creation inside the hump of handmade inserts, which are not aesthetically pleasing, as well as unprofessional.
- Further, in general, the replacement of the known types of humps in the suit (or in another motorcycle garment) is a rather complicated operation as it requires a series of rather laborious processes, also considering that the rear area of the suit is generally intended to receive advertising and/or identification writings from sponsors.
-
WO 02/080715 -
WO2007/116377 describes a motorcycle suit comprising a hump-shaped rear aerodynamic appendage. In particular, this appendix is formed by a first portion which is permanently fixed externally to the suit and, within said first portion, a body which has a convex external surface is then removable. Furthermore, heat exchange means are housed inside said body, for example a Peltier cell, which are then connected with a plurality of peripheral cooling elements which are inserted in special pockets present on the motorcycle suit, and for this purpose to cool specific portions of the body of the motorcyclist wearing the suit. In this solution the entire hump - i.e. both the first portion and the body housing the heat exchange means - are fixed to the outer surface of the suit. Furthermore, the first portion is configured to mate with a single standard and predefined shape body. -

aerodynamic hump 2 according to the invention is suitable to be applied in a garment, for example a suit or a jacket, which is worn over any other garments (for example an undergarment) and above which they are not however, wear additional clothing. In essence, theaerodynamic hump 2 according to the invention is suitable for being applied in the outermost garment which is intended to be worn by a subject, in particular for carrying out a sports gesture or in any case a moving/running activity. Suitably, according to the language of the prior art, "hump" 2 here means the swelling or in any case the deformed portion which protrudes with respect to the remaining rear and upper part of a garment, and in particular of amotorcycle suit 3, and more specifically it is positioned in the rear part of the garment which - once it is worn - covers the upper part of the back up to the area between the rider's shoulders (seefig. 1 ). - In particular, the

underlying base body 4, - a substantially
laminar development portion 10 which is positioned externally and above with respect to saidunderlying base body 4, - a covering
body 6 which is positioned externally and to the above theportion 10 and is removably associated with theunderlying base body 4, - fastening means configured to constrain said covering
body 6 to theunderlying base body 4 through saidportion 10. - The covering
body 6 comprises at least oneexternal surface portion 11, configured so that alone, or in combination with said base body 4 (once these have been mutually associated), it defines and gives an aerodynamic effect to said hump. Preferably the aerodynamic effect of saidhump 2 can only be conferred by said coveringbody 6, and, in particular, by itsexternal surface portion 11. - Conveniently, the substantially
laminar development portion 10 comprises a portion of an article, preferably of leather (natural and/or synthetic) and/or fabric (i.e. obtained by weaving threads) and/or non-woven fabric, and/or similar materials, with an extension of the thickness that is much less than that of the other two dimensions (length and width). In particular, theportion 10 with a substantially laminar development comprises a first surface which faces inwardly and towards theunderlying base body 4, and a second surface which faces outwardly and towards the coveringbody 6. - Suitably, said substantially
laminar development portion 10 covers externally saidunderlying base body 4,outside - Conveniently, the
base body 4 is positioned below acorresponding portion 10 of the motorcycle garment, while the coveringbody 6 is positioned above said portion 10 (i.e. on thesurface 13 of the latter facing outwards). In particular, in this case, the coveringbody 6 is associated with thebase body 4 at theportion 10 which covers/covers the latter and is mechanically fixed to thebase body 4 by means of fastening means which pass through saidportion 10. - Conveniently, the
external surface portion 11 of the coveringbody 6 has a curved shape with concavity facing thebase body 4. In particular, the coveringbody 6 is hollow internally and is defined by a concave laminar body, with concavity facing towards thebase body 4. Conveniently, the coveringbody 6 is associated with theunderlying base body 4 at the perimetral edge of said coveringbody 6. - Advantageously, the
base body 4 is configured so as to define at least one internal cavity 20 (seefig. 4 ) for housing components of atraditional airbag module 5 and/or a hydration module 7 (such as for example a container (bag) for u n moisturizing liquid to drink) and/or other useful motorcycle components/elements. Preferably, theinternal cavity 20 is open and is defined on a lower (internal)surface 21 of thebase body 4 which is opposite to the upper (external)surface 22 of the same with which thecovering body 6 is associated. - Advantageously, the covering
body 6 can be removably associated with thebase body 4. Preferably, the coveringbody 6 acts essentially as an external shell to be applied on theunderlying base body 4 which is positioned below theportion 10 forming part of the garment 3 (see .fig. 3 ). - Advantageously, the covering
body 6 partially or preferably covers thebase body 4 above the substantiallylaminar portion 10. - Advantageously, the
base body 4 and the covering body 6 - when they are mutually associated - define a substantially tapered shape which is analogous to the overall shape of a traditional aerodynamic hump. - Preferably, said
base body 4 has a substantially curved shape which delimits said internal cavity. Suitably, said internal cavity is open on the bottom and/or in correspondence with another area thereof. - In essence, in the
aerodynamic hump 2 according to the present invention, thebase body 4 is intended primarily - preferably exclusively - to define the housing for components of theairbag module 5 and/or of thehydration module 7 or for any other components or elements useful for motorcycles, while the coveringbody 6 is intended primarily - preferably exclusively - to define the highly customizable aerodynamic conformation of the entire hump. - Suitably, the components of the
airbag module 5 and/or thehydration module 7 or any other components can be housed directly within thecavity 20 defined in thebase body 4 and/or can be inserted inside suitable containment envelopes (not shown) which, in turn, are mounted and housed inside thecavity 20 defined in thebase body 4. Advantageously, in the latter case, the containment envelopes can be fixed inside thecavity 20 defined in thebase body 4 for interlocking or by means of suitable removable fastening means, such as for example screws or even Velcro. - Advantageously, the
base body 4 can also have a substantially aesthetic function so as to define a "first" underlying hump to be inserted into a corresponding and specific defined pocket of thegarment 3. Conveniently, thisbase body 4 can also have a configuration (in terms of shape and/or size) not optimized from an aerodynamic point of view. In other words, before the application of the coveringbody 6, thebase body 4 can be used to temporarily - and at least partially - fill thepocket 13 provided in thegarment 3 so as to avoid that it remains completely empty and therefore floppy. , thus avoiding an aesthetic effect that can be unpleasant. - Advantageously, the
base body 4 has substantially standardized shape and dimensions, preferably predefined. In particular, thebase body 4 has a shape and dimensions which remain substantially the same and predefined and are not substantially modified/varied according to the characteristics of the pilot and/or the vehicle and/or the corresponding aerodynamic tests made. - Preferably, the
base body 4 is made by injection molding or thermoforming, thus defining a suitable containment and protection structure for the components of theairbag module 5 and/or for anyother components 7 within correspondingseats 24 formed in theinternal cavity 20, seats which can advantageously be obtained within thebase body 4 through suitable partitions or undercuts. - Preferably, the covering
body 6 is made by thermoforming starting from a flat sheet of expanded material, in particular polyurethane. Suitably, the coveringbody 6 can be obtained by injection molding using simplified molds; moreover, in this case, by using expanded material (for example polyurethane), the molds can be made of aluminum, thus obtaining an important cost reduction. - Advantageously, the covering
body 6 is configured (i.e. it is shaped and dimensioned) mainly - preferably exclusively - to give alone, or in combination with thebase body 4, an aerodynamic effect to said hump. Suitably, the aerodynamic effect is defined by the profile, in terms of size and shape, of theexternal surface portion 11 of the coveringbody 6. - Advantageously, the covering
body 6 is highly customizable, in particular as regards the shape and/or the size; suitably, this allows the aerodynamic profile of theentire hump 2 to be changed quickly and easily. In particular, the coveringbody 6 can be customized for each pilot based on the characteristics of the pilot himself, on the basis of the characteristics of the vehicle, of the aerodynamic tests made, as well as on the basis of the characteristics of the track and/or the race. In particular, this means that coveringbodies 6 of different shapes and sizes can be made, which can be associated (at different times and separately to each other) to thesame base body 4, and this in order to modify/adapt the aerodynamic profile of thehump 2. Conveniently, for this purpose, a plurality of molds can be provided, each of which is intended to be used to create a corresponding configuration (in terms of shape and/or size) of said coveringbody 6. - Conveniently, as said, the covering
body 6 can be associated with thebase body 4 by means of fastening means which cross theportion 10 with a substantially laminar development. - Suitably, in the substantially laminar developing
portion 10 are obtained corresponding throughholes 17 to allow the passage of the fastening means to allow to constrain thecovering body 6 and the base body to each other. - Conveniently, in the substantially laminar developing
portion 10 no through openings are present, which are instead obtained from the same fastening means as they pass through saidportion 10 due to their application in order to constrain together the coveringbody 6 and thebase body 4. - Conveniently, said fastening means include mechanical coupling means, preferably by interlocking or by the use of fasteners.
- Suitably, the fastening means can be integrated and be part of the covering
body 6 and/or of thebase body 4, and/or comprise separate elements/organs which engage directly within thecovering 6 and/or ofbase 4 body, and/or comprise separate elements which engages with corresponding counter-elements fixed/inserted or integral with thecovering 6 and/orbase 4 body. - Advantageously, as said, said
base body 4 is inserted/positioned inferiorly with respect to aportion 10 of the garment, while the coveringbody 6 is positioned above saidportion 10 of the garment. - Suitably, the covering
body 6 and thebase body 4 are configured to be removably fixed to each other by means of suitable first fastening means 15 associated with/defined on said coveringbody 6 and suitable second fastening means 15 associated with/defined on saidbase body 4. Preferably, the fastening means 15, 15' can comprise for example screws and bolts configured to be associated/integrated withbodies bodies 4 and/or 6. - Preferably, neither the
base body 4 nor the coveringbody 6 are fixed directly to theportion 10 substantially laminar and, in particular, to theportion 10 of saidgarment 3. - Conveniently, the
portion 10 with a substantially laminar development is clamped between the coveringbody 6 and thebase body 4. In essence, the substantiallylaminar portion 10 is sandwiched between the coveringbody 6 and thebase body 4, which are constrained to each other by means of the fastening means. - For example, the
base body 4 can be fixed to thecovering body 6 by means of suitable members (for example screws) which pass through a substantiallylaminar portion 10, comprising for example at least one layer of fabric of thegarment 3. Conveniently, this it allows a simple and quick release of the coveringbody 6 from theunderlying base body 4, to then replace it with adifferent covering body 6 to be then always tied to thesame base body 4, thus avoiding having to replace the entire garment. - Suitably, in order to be able to couple a plurality of
different covering bodies 6 to thesame base body 4, the coveringbodies 6 can have said first fastening means 15 in standard and predefined positions, that is, which do not change, for example, varying the dimensions of the coveringbody 6, thus being compatible with the corresponding second fastening means 15' present on saidbase body 4. Suitably, also the second fastening means 15' can remain in the same position even in the case ofbase 4 of different shapes and/or sizes. - Advantageously, the fastening means can allow the mutual position of said
base body 4 and said coveringbody 6 to be adjusted. This can for example be achieved by means of a plurality of shaped openings (for example with slots), integrated and/or associated to saidbase body 4 and/or to said coveringbody 6, within which corresponding engagement members (for example screws) can be moved, integrated and/or associated with saidbase body 4 and/or with said coveringbody 6 and this in order to move said coveringbody 6 forward or backward with respect to said base body and thus be able to modify the overall aerodynamic profile of saidhump 2 always using thesame covering body 6. - Preferably, the
base body 4 has, at itsexternal surface 22, a slightly hollowed portion 9, which thus defines a seat for the interlocking engagement of the coveringbody 6. - Advantageously, in ag when it reaches the fastening means that connect the
covering body 6 to thebase body 4, said coveringbody 6 can also be fixed directly to the (only)portion 10 with a substantially laminar development by means of traditional rapid coupling means, preferably by means of clips, rivets , buttons (for example mushroom-shaped), velcro, zip, etc. Conveniently in this case, the rapid coupling means are mounted on theportion 10. - The solution according to the present invention is particularly advantageous since the customization of the hump is extremely easy and quick since it is sufficient to select and apply the most suitable/
appropriate covering body 6 above theportion 10 of thegarment 3, without thus having to modify or open the garment at thearea 13, preferably pocket-shaped, which covers or inside which thebase body 4 is inserted. Advantageously, therefore thesame base body 4 always remains inserted within the pocket-shapedarea 13. - Conveniently, the
aforesaid portion 10 of thegarment 3, which is clamped between thebase body 4 and the coveringbody 6, can comprise one or more layers, preferably made of natural or synthetic leather, or in fabric or other suitable covering used to make motorcycle clothing. - Preferably, the
portion 10 of thegarment 3 can be made entirely or partially of elastic material. - The present invention also includes a
garment 3, preferably a motorcycle suit, provided with ahump 2 like the one described above and in which saidportion 10, which is clamped between theexternal covering body 6 and the underlyinginternal base body 4, belongs to said garment. Preferably, the underlyinginternal base body 4 is housed inside apocket 13 of thegarment 3 and, therefore, saidportion 10 crossed by the fastening means - which secure theexternal covering body 6 to the underlying internal base body 4 - is defined by the outermost part that defines said pocket. - The present invention also relates to a method for identifying and/or defining the
aerodynamic hump 2 for agarment 3, preferably sport garment, in particular for a suit or jacket for a motorcyclist, cyclist, skier or the like, which is optimized based on the needs and characteristics of the pilot and/or that of the vehicle and/or the corresponding aerodynamic tests. In particular, said method provides for: - starting from a garment having a
base body 4 inserted below aportion 10 with a substantially laminar development defined in said garment, - preparing and/or making, to then make available, at least two covering
bodies 6 having different configurations between them, in terms of shape and/or dimensions, - carry out, for each of said at least two covering
bodies 6, the following operations until the coveringbody 6 is identified which allows - alone or in combination with the base body 4 - to obtain thehump 2 with the best/desired aerodynamic profile:- move the
covering body 6 closer and/or position it above the substantiallylaminar portion 10 that covers thebase body 4, - constrain between them the covering
body 6, thus positioned and/or approached, and thebase body 4 by means of fastening means which pass through saidportion 10, to thus define acorresponding hump 2, - during the performance or simulation (for example through a wind tunnel) of a sports gesture or in any case of a moving/running activity by the subject wearing the
garment 3 equipped with saidhump 2, measure and/or evaluate the characteristics and/or the aerodynamic efficiency and/or the aerodynamic profile of thecorresponding hump 2.

Hump 2 has been described mainly in its application in a motorcycle suit, however it is understood that it can also be applied in a garment usable in any environment where, during the performance of a certain gesture, the wearer moves at high speed in an uncovered position, that is, in contact with the air he is passing through. - From what has been said it is clear that the hump according to the invention is particularly advantageous compared to the traditional ones in that:
- allows to obtain a high customization of the aerodynamic effect at low costs and also keeping the function of containment and protection of the module unchanged airbags or other components,
- is of rapid, simple and economic construction, since the base body can be easily made by injection molding or thermoforming, according to standardized dimensions and shape, and therefore in series, while the covering body can be made by thermoforming or with simpler (and therefore less expensive) molds and can be customized according to the needs or aerodynamic requirements,
- it is easy and simple to apply and replace in the garment, especially in the motorcycle suit.
- In particular, the solution according to the present invention differs from
