Definitions
- the invention relates to an odor trap for a water drain and a water drain provided with the odor trap.
- the problem with drains with a water trap is that the drain can repeatedly dry out if it is not used for a longer period of time. Sewer gases from the sewage system can escape through a dried out water odor trap, and there is an intense odor nuisance. This occurs, for example, in holiday homes and hotels that are unused for a long time.
- a floating body is arranged movably up and down via a pipe socket arranged in a multi-part housing, with water collected between the housing and the pipe socket representing a water barrier for sewer gases, whereby a water Odor trap is formed.
- the float is immersed in the accumulated water. If the accumulated water in the odor trap dries out, the float sinks to the extent of the decreasing level of the water until it finally closes the overflow opening formed by the pipe socket in a lowered state, so that gases escaping from the channel can escape from the drain are prevented by its inlet opening. Only when water again flows into the drain via the inflow opening does the float rise. By lifting the float, the overflow opening is released, and water can flow unhindered through the overflow opening to the drain opening and through this into the channel.
- the document DE 20 2011 109947 U1 discloses a sanitary tub with an odor trap in the tub bottom, which has a membrane element without a guide.
- a first disadvantage is their great height, which requires a high floor structure for the building. Such a high floor structure is often not feasible for renovations, for example. There are also many countries in which a correspondingly high floor structure is not standard or not practical.
- odor traps are also offered on the market with a water seal that is lower than the standard requirements.
- these miniaturized odor traps have a low drainage capacity.
- the problem of the non-installability of odor traps due to excessive height also occurs in particular in barrier-free showers.
- Another disadvantage of the known water odor traps with a reduced water seal is that they allow sewer gases to pass through when there is overpressure in the sewer system.
- the reasons for this are, on the one hand, the drying out of the odor trap when not in use for a long period of time and, on the other hand, the low sealing water height in the case of flat odor traps, so that the sealing water opposes excess gas pressure in the sewer with insufficient static pressure and therefore cannot prevent the passage of sewer gases.
- the present invention has the object of overcoming or at least alleviating the disadvantages of the known water odor traps.
- the overall height should be reduced compared to the known odor traps while at the same time maintaining a sufficient drainage capacity.
- sewer gases should be prevented from passing through the odor trap even if there is a certain excess pressure in the sewer system.
- the suction of the sealing water should be reduced in the case of negative pressure in the sewer system.
- the odor trap according to the invention has an odor trap body which defines a chamber for sealing water, the chamber having at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening, the odor trap having a membrane element which is movable between a closed position and an open position and which is arranged in the odor trap so that it in the closed position closes the at least one outlet opening of the chamber and in the open position releases the at least one outlet opening of the chamber. Furthermore, the odor trap body defines an open drainage space which communicates with the at least one outlet opening of the chamber when the membrane element is in the open position. The drain space at least partially surrounds the at least one outlet opening of the chamber.
- the at least one inlet opening forms an inlet channel which - seen in the installed position - has an upper end open to the environment and extends downward into a lower region of the chamber, the inlet channel at least partially surrounding the drainage space.
- This odor trap offers the great advantage that in the event of excess pressure in the channel, which manifests itself in the drain space of the odor trap, the membrane element is pressed against the outlet opening of the odor trap body and therefore closes the outlet opening even more tightly.
- Another advantage of the odor trap is its low overall height due to the provision and positioning of the inlet channels to the side of the drain space.
- the open drainage space also enables the odor trap to be installed in any direction of rotation around its vertical axis, i.e. it can be installed with a 360 ° rotation if the odor trap has a cylindrical shape.
- a compact construction of the odor trap can be achieved if the at least one outlet opening of the chamber is formed in an inner chamber peripheral wall of the odor trap body, the outside of the inner chamber peripheral wall defining part of the drain space.
- the outlet opening is formed by an upper, open end of the inner chamber circumferential wall.
- the outside of a wall section of the at least one inlet channel defines part of the drainage space.
- inlet channels are provided, which are arranged around the outlet opening and spaced apart from one another in sections.
- This embodiment offers the advantage of a large drainage capacity with a further reduced overall height.
- two inlet channels are provided, they are preferably offset by 180 ° to one another, ie they are arranged opposite one another in relation to the drain space and the outlet opening of the odor trap body and preferably surround the at least one drain in sections.
- At least two outlet openings are provided, which are spaced apart from one another in sections surrounding the inlet channel.
- the odor trap has a cover which is detachably arranged on the odor trap body, the lid defining an upper section of the drain space - in the installed position of the odor trap - and sealing this upper section in cooperation with the odor trap body at the top from the environment.
- the cover can have a transparent window for inspection purposes or consist of a transparent material. Since the cover can be removed, the membrane element is easily accessible for maintenance and replacement. The possibility of inspection when a transparent cover is provided enables the functionality and possible contamination of the odor trap body to be checked quickly.
- the lid can be connected to or detached from the odor trap body, for example by a bayonet lock.
- the cover forms a multi-component element, one of the components of the multi-component element forming a seal to the odor trap body and preferably made of a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or a vulcanized elastomer with a hardness between 30 and 90 Shore-A or as a form element, e.g. made of TPE or an ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) or a natural rubber (NR) and is connected to another component of the multi-component element.
- TPE thermoplastic elastomer
- EPDM ethylene-propylene-diene rubber
- NR natural rubber
- the sealing component of the multicomponent element is particularly advantageously injected onto the other component. In this way, a particularly good sealing effect can be achieved, and these seals are particularly cost-effective due to the integrated manufacturing process and the need for maintenance. It is further provided that a component of the multicomponent element is made of a material that is harder relative to the component forming the seal, e.g. Polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers (ABS) or polyamide (PA). This gives the lid stability and dimensional stability.
- PP Polypropylene
- ABS acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers
- PA polyamide
- the cover has a guide element on which the membrane element is movably arranged and guided.
- Guide element designed as an extension or recess which / which interacts with a recess or an extension of the membrane element.
- the membrane element can be designed like an umbrella, ie have a straight or curved surface which is bent downward in its peripheral area.
- the membrane element interacts with the cover, which can also be designed in the form of a screen.
- the membrane element can only float up to a predefined maximum open position. If the membrane element has an umbrella-like configuration, the umbrella covers or preferably projects beyond the outlet opening of the odor trap body, the membrane element in the closed position sealingly resting on the edge delimiting the outlet opening, thus guaranteeing a reliable sealing effect.
- the invention provides in one embodiment that the membrane element has a specific total weight greater than water.
- the membrane element is not configured as a floating body, which means that the effect is not based on lifting by the water level of the incoming water, but rather due to the water pressure in the chamber and is therefore very reliable. It has been shown that the desired effect can best be achieved at the pressures usually prevailing in a channel system if the membrane element has a mass of 5 to 200 grams, preferably 10 to 150 grams, most preferably 15 to 40 grams . With such a mass, the membrane element is not lifted by negative pressure in the channel system and is also backwater-tight.
- the membrane element Due to its mass, the membrane element ensures tightness even when the odor trap is dried out. In particular, the membrane element prevents the sealing water from being sucked out in spite of the reduced odor trap height of up to approx. -200 Pa negative pressure compared to the prior art, and with 25 mm sealing water height in the chamber even down to -400 Pa negative pressure. If there is overpressure in the duct, the membrane element is tight up to at least 400 Pa and thus prevents duct gases from penetrating into the respective space.
- the membrane element is preferably a multi-component element,
- a plastic composite material with a density of more than 1000 kg / m 3 is formed, with a component that rests sealingly on the edge delimiting the outlet opening in the closed position consists of a sealing material, preferably a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or a vulcanized elastomer with a hardness between 30 and 90 Shore-A, or as a molded element, for example made of TPE or EPDM or NR, and connected to another component of the multi-component element.
- TPE thermoplastic elastomer
- a vulcanized elastomer with a hardness between 30 and 90 Shore-A or as a molded element, for example made of TPE or EPDM or NR, and connected to another component of the multi-component element.
- the connection can be made, for example, by injection molding, gluing, welding or a form fit.
- one component of the multi-component element of the membrane element is made of a material that is harder than the component forming the seal, such as polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers ( ABS) or polyamide (PA).
- PP polypropylene
- ABS acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers
- PA polyamide
- the membrane element is a metallic material, e.g. Brass, bronze, magnetite, copper, or an inorganic material such as e.g. Includes barium sulfate, or weight inserts, in particular made of the materials mentioned.
- the at least one inlet opening of the chamber is covered by a hair trap, the hair trap preferably being integrated into the cover, but alternatively also being designed to be removable.
- This embodiment with a hair trap guarantees a prolonged and safe function of the odor trap without maintenance, because foreign bodies contained in the incoming water can be retained by the hair trap and easily removed.
- the invention also comprises a water drain with a drain body with a connection pipe to the channel, which is combined with an odor trap according to the invention. It is provided that the odor trap is received either in a seat formed in the drain body, or in a seat formed in an insert of the water drain, or in a seat formed in an attachment of the water drain. In order to create a 100% odor-tight connection between the water drain and the odor trap, the attachment or insert of the water drain must be tightly connected to the drain body.

- the Odor trap body 11 also at least partially defines an open drain space 20, which is arranged as a free space in the odor trap body 11.
- the drain space 20 communicates with the outlet opening 13 of the chamber 12 when the membrane element 15 is in the open position.
- the drain space 20 surrounds the outlet opening 13 of the chamber 12 and is in turn partially surrounded by the two opposite inlet channels 17.
- the outlet opening 13 of the chamber 12 is formed in an inner chamber peripheral wall 18 of the odor trap body 11 as the upper, open end of the inner chamber peripheral wall 18, the outside of the inner chamber peripheral wall 18 defining part of the drain space 20.
- An outer chamber peripheral wall 19 delimits a part of the chamber 12 and at the same time forms the outer side walls for the inlet channels 17.
- the inner side walls 21 of the inlet channels 17 also define a part of the drain space 20.

The assembly takes place in such a way that the membrane element 15 is first inserted into the odor trap body 11 from above, whereupon the cover 22 is placed and then the hair trap 29 can be arranged as an optional element.
- the odor trap 10 functions in such a way that drainage water flowing into the chamber 12 through the inlet openings 14 and the inlet channels 17 first fills the chamber 12 and forms sealing water therein, which prevents channel gases from passing out of the channel through the odor trap 10 into the environment.
- the outlet opening 13 is initially tightly closed by the membrane element 15 due to its own weight. Only when the water level in the chamber 12 has risen to approximately the level of the outlet opening 13 does the water pressure raise the membrane element 15 and the drainage water exits through the outlet opening 13 into the drainage space 20, which communicates with the channel, as described in more detail below is explained. If the chamber 12 dries out due to a prolonged lack of water supply, the membrane element 15 continues to seal the outlet opening 13 by its own weight.
- a water drain 1 with an inserted odor trap 10 according to the invention is shown in a longitudinal section.
- the water drain 1 has a drain body 2 which defines a pot-shaped installation space 3 in which the odor trap 10 sits.
- the installation space of the drain body 2 opens into a connector-shaped connecting pipe 4 to the channel, which is connected to a sewer pipe (not shown).
- Towards the top of the room, the water drain 1 is covered by an inlet grate 5 through which the drain water can flow into the odor trap 10.
- the drainage water After the drainage water has passed through the odor trap 10, ie after the drainage water has entered the drainage space 20 of the odor trap 10 through the outlet opening 13, the drainage space 20 being open to the installation space 3 of the water drainage 1, the drainage water flows into the installation space 3 and out of the Installation space 3 through the connecting pipe 4 into the duct.
- the odor trap 10 sits directly in the attachment 7.
- the circumferential seal 16 surrounding the outside of the odor trap body 11 ensures a tight connection of the odor trap body 11 with the attachment 7, which is again tightly connected to the drain body 2 of the water drain 1.
- FIG. 6 A separate insert 6, which is arranged in the installation space 3 and provides a seat for the odor trap 10, is provided as a variant of the water drain 1 shown in the figure.
- FIG. 7 shown variant of the water drain 1 offers, as in Fig. 6 , a separate insert 6 a seat for the odor trap 10.
- This embodiment variant is used when the water drain 1 is deep on site, and the drain body 2 can be shortened to a desired length at the construction site.
- the Figures 8 to 10 show an odor trap 30, but without a guide element and thus not according to the invention.
- This odor trap 30 corresponds in its function, apart from the missing guide element, to the function of the first embodiment of the odor trap 10 explained above and differs therefrom mainly in its elongated shape instead of the cylindrical shape of the odor trap 10 selected in the first embodiment.
- the reference numbers of the odor trap 30 are increased by twenty compared to the first embodiment of the odor trap 10.
- the odor trap 30 has an elongated shape and is intended in particular for installation in linear drain bodies.

Description
The invention relates to an odor trap for a water drain and a water drain provided with the odor trap.
The problem with drains with a water trap is that the drain can repeatedly dry out if it is not used for a longer period of time. Sewer gases from the sewage system can escape through a dried out water odor trap, and there is an intense odor nuisance. This occurs, for example, in holiday homes and hotels that are unused for a long time.

Although the known water odor traps have proven themselves in practice, they nevertheless have some disadvantages. A first disadvantage is their great height, which requires a high floor structure for the building. Such a high floor structure is often not feasible for renovations, for example. There are also many countries in which a correspondingly high floor structure is not standard or not practical.
In order to reduce the overall height of the odor traps, odor traps are also offered on the market with a water seal that is lower than the standard requirements. However, these miniaturized odor traps have a low drainage capacity. The problem of the non-installability of odor traps due to excessive height also occurs in particular in barrier-free showers.
Another disadvantage of the known water odor traps with a reduced water seal is that they allow sewer gases to pass through when there is overpressure in the sewer system. The reasons for this are, on the one hand, the drying out of the odor trap when not in use for a long period of time and, on the other hand, the low sealing water height in the case of flat odor traps, so that the sealing water opposes excess gas pressure in the sewer with insufficient static pressure and therefore cannot prevent the passage of sewer gases.
The present invention has the object of overcoming or at least alleviating the disadvantages of the known water odor traps. In particular, the overall height should be reduced compared to the known odor traps while at the same time maintaining a sufficient drainage capacity. Furthermore, sewer gases should be prevented from passing through the odor trap even if there is a certain excess pressure in the sewer system. Likewise, the suction of the sealing water should be reduced in the case of negative pressure in the sewer system.
This object is achieved by an odor trap with the features of
The odor trap according to the invention has an odor trap body which defines a chamber for sealing water, the chamber having at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening, the odor trap having a membrane element which is movable between a closed position and an open position and which is arranged in the odor trap so that it in the closed position closes the at least one outlet opening of the chamber and in the open position releases the at least one outlet opening of the chamber. Furthermore, the odor trap body defines an open drainage space which communicates with the at least one outlet opening of the chamber when the membrane element is in the open position. The drain space at least partially surrounds the at least one outlet opening of the chamber.
The at least one inlet opening forms an inlet channel which - seen in the installed position - has an upper end open to the environment and extends downward into a lower region of the chamber, the inlet channel at least partially surrounding the drainage space.
This odor trap offers the great advantage that in the event of excess pressure in the channel, which manifests itself in the drain space of the odor trap, the membrane element is pressed against the outlet opening of the odor trap body and therefore closes the outlet opening even more tightly. Another advantage of the odor trap is its low overall height due to the provision and positioning of the inlet channels to the side of the drain space. The open drainage space also enables the odor trap to be installed in any direction of rotation around its vertical axis, i.e. it can be installed with a 360 ° rotation if the odor trap has a cylindrical shape.
A compact construction of the odor trap can be achieved if the at least one outlet opening of the chamber is formed in an inner chamber peripheral wall of the odor trap body, the outside of the inner chamber peripheral wall defining part of the drain space. For structural reasons and to achieve a high drainage capacity through short flow paths, it is preferred if the outlet opening is formed by an upper, open end of the inner chamber circumferential wall.
In order to achieve a compact design and low overall height of the odor trap, it is provided in one embodiment that the outside of a wall section of the at least one inlet channel defines part of the drainage space.
In a preferred embodiment of the odor trap according to the invention, at least two inlet channels are provided, which are arranged around the outlet opening and spaced apart from one another in sections. This embodiment offers the advantage of a large drainage capacity with a further reduced overall height. If two inlet channels are provided, they are preferably offset by 180 ° to one another, ie they are arranged opposite one another in relation to the drain space and the outlet opening of the odor trap body and preferably surround the at least one drain in sections.
In an alternative embodiment, which also offers a high drainage capacity with a reduced overall height, at least two outlet openings are provided, which are spaced apart from one another in sections surrounding the inlet channel.
According to the invention it is provided that the odor trap has a cover which is detachably arranged on the odor trap body, the lid defining an upper section of the drain space - in the installed position of the odor trap - and sealing this upper section in cooperation with the odor trap body at the top from the environment. The cover can have a transparent window for inspection purposes or consist of a transparent material. Since the cover can be removed, the membrane element is easily accessible for maintenance and replacement. The possibility of inspection when a transparent cover is provided enables the functionality and possible contamination of the odor trap body to be checked quickly. The lid can be connected to or detached from the odor trap body, for example by a bayonet lock.
It is further preferred that the cover forms a multi-component element, one of the components of the multi-component element forming a seal to the odor trap body and preferably made of a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or a vulcanized elastomer with a hardness between 30 and 90 Shore-A or as a form element, e.g. made of TPE or an ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) or a natural rubber (NR) and is connected to another component of the multi-component element. The connection takes place e.g. by gluing, welding or form fit (especially if the molded element is designed as an O-ring that is positioned in a groove of the other component). The sealing component of the multicomponent element is particularly advantageously injected onto the other component.
To increase the functional reliability of the odor trap according to the invention, it is provided according to the invention that the cover has a guide element on which the membrane element is movably arranged and guided. Preferably that is Guide element designed as an extension or recess which / which interacts with a recess or an extension of the membrane element. As shown in an embodiment of the odor trap according to the invention shown in the drawing, the membrane element can be designed like an umbrella, ie have a straight or curved surface which is bent downward in its peripheral area. The membrane element interacts with the cover, which can also be designed in the form of a screen. The provision of a guide element on the cover results in reliable guidance of the movement of the membrane element when opening and closing the outlet opening. In addition, it is ensured that when water flows in through the inlet channels, the membrane element can only float up to a predefined maximum open position. If the membrane element has an umbrella-like configuration, the umbrella covers or preferably projects beyond the outlet opening of the odor trap body, the membrane element in the closed position sealingly resting on the edge delimiting the outlet opening, thus guaranteeing a reliable sealing effect.
For a high functional reliability of the odor trap according to the invention with different pressure conditions in the sewer system, the invention provides in one embodiment that the membrane element has a specific total weight greater than water. This means that, unlike in the prior art, the membrane element is not configured as a floating body, which means that the effect is not based on lifting by the water level of the incoming water, but rather due to the water pressure in the chamber and is therefore very reliable. Due to its mass, the membrane element ensures tightness even when the odor trap is dried out.
To achieve a maintenance-free sealing of the at least one outlet opening by the membrane element, the membrane element is preferably a multi-component element, In particular, a plastic composite material with a density of more than 1000 kg / m 3 , is formed, with a component that rests sealingly on the edge delimiting the outlet opening in the closed position consists of a sealing material, preferably a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or a vulcanized elastomer with a hardness between 30 and 90 Shore-A, or as a molded element, for example made of TPE or EPDM or NR, and connected to another component of the multi-component element. The connection can be made, for example, by injection molding, gluing, welding or a form fit. The advantage of such a configuration of the membrane element lies in the realization of a maintenance-free seal integrated into the membrane element. In order to give the membrane element stability and dimensional stability, it is provided that one component of the multi-component element of the membrane element is made of a material that is harder than the component forming the seal, such as polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers ( ABS) or polyamide (PA).
To adjust the mass of the membrane element, it is expedient if the membrane element is a metallic material, e.g. Brass, bronze, magnetite, copper, or an inorganic material such as e.g. Includes barium sulfate, or weight inserts, in particular made of the materials mentioned.
To increase the functional reliability of the odor trap and for easy cleaning, in one embodiment of the invention the at least one inlet opening of the chamber is covered by a hair trap, the hair trap preferably being integrated into the cover, but alternatively also being designed to be removable. This embodiment with a hair trap guarantees a prolonged and safe function of the odor trap without maintenance, because foreign bodies contained in the incoming water can be retained by the hair trap and easily removed.
The invention also comprises a water drain with a drain body with a connection pipe to the channel, which is combined with an odor trap according to the invention.

Although only two
In a preferred embodiment, the

The
