Description

  • The present invention relates to a household appliance having a front display panel secured to a display slot with an improved structure.
  • Front faces of household appliances usually comprise a control and information panel in the upper portion thereof; such an information panel typically enabling the user set different operation modes and get informed of the current operational status of the appliance. Such an information display and operation control panel may involve illuminating elements placed behind transparent textual indications for visually indicating operational status of the household appliance. An electronic touch panel can be employed in higher-end products.
  • An electronic display panel fixedly mounted into a respective slot on the front side sheet of the household appliance such as a refrigerator is usually insulated and surrounded by an insulation material such as polyurethane. The rear side of the display panel placed into the display slot is generally covered by an aluminum foil and insulation material is applied over the aluminum foil. To this end, although the display panel is fixed and insulated in an appropriate manner, it might happen that the front sheet of the household appliance features noticeable surface irregularities or unevenness in the sheet surrounding the display panel. This is primarily caused by the insulation material that fills into the openings around the display panel conductors and reaches under the aluminum foil. As the polyurethane trapped under the aluminum foil hardens, deforms and expands, creates tensions on the front sheet. These surface irregularities and local unevenness creates a notably visible manufacturing quality problem in high-end products and should as such be addressed in an effective manner.
  • Among others, a prominent patent disclosure in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as CN103471342 , disclosing a display control panel component and a refrigerator provided with the display control panel component. The display control panel component comprises a display control panel and a display control panel mounting plate, wherein the display control panel is provided with a display screen and an injection molding part; the display control panel is arranged on the display control panel mounting plate, the display control panel mounting plate and the injection molding part are integrally formed through injection molding, a first display hole running through the display control panel mounting plate along the thickness direction of the display control panel mounting plate is formed in the display control panel mounting plate, and the first display hole is opposite to the display screen.
  • International Patent Application WO 2010/029042 A1 discloses a household appliance that comprises a door and a glass panel that is mounted on the door. Moreover, a control panel is mounted in a cover that is fixed to a frame which is attached to the glass panel.
  • Documents US 2002/063514 A1 , WO 2013/098007 A1 , WO 2007/060188 A2 , WO 03/081153 A1 , JP H11 118348 A and US 2011/147417 A1 also disclose relevant prior art. The present invention provides an improved information display panel for an electrical household appliance, by which the front sheet of the household appliance around the display panel features no surface unevenness particularly in the vicinity of the frame area of the display panel.
  • The present invention provides an electrical household appliance with a display panel overcoming the aforementioned inconveniences, which is defined in the characterized portion of Claim 1.
  • Primary object of the present invention is to provide a household appliance with a display panel around which the front sheet has no surface irregularities.
  • The present invention proposes an electrical household appliance having a front side with a control or display panel. The display panel is inserted into a display panel slot with the rear surface of the display panel slot being laterally covered by a protective frame enclosure. An aluminum foil sheet material is adhered to said rear surface of the display panel slot such that the protective frame enclosure is also covered.
  • The protective frame enclosure is designed such that it encircles the rear surface of the display panel slot and it provides that an electric conductor extending inside said display panel is spaced apart from the front sheet's inner surface.
  • The protective frame enclosure is formed as a two-piece unit in the manner that the two pieces as U-shape members can be joined to form the protective frame enclosure, therefore ensuring that each U-shape member can be separately mounted in an easy manner.
  • Said protective frame enclosure is preferably made of expandable polystyrene material and said foil sheet material is preferably an aluminum sheet material. The electrical household appliance may be a refrigeration appliance, a cooking oven or a laundry treatment appliance.
  • Accompanying drawings are given solely for the purpose of exemplifying a household appliance display panel whose advantages over prior art were outlined above and will be explained hereinafter in brief.
  • The drawings are not meant to delimit the scope of protection as identified in the claims nor should they be referred to alone in an effort to interpret the scope identified in said claims without recourse to the technical disclosure in the description of the present invention.

    • Fig. 3 demonstrates a general perspective view of the protective frame enclosure according to the present invention.
  • Referring now to the figures outlined above, the present invention proposes a household appliance front side display panel as defined in Claim 1.
  • The following numerals are assigned to different parts demonstrated in the drawings:
    1. 1. Display panel
    2. 2. First side sheet
    3. 3. Display panel slot
    4. 4. Second side surface
    5. 5. Electric conductor
    6. 6. Protective frame enclosure
    7. 7. Raised edge
    8. 8. Sheet inner surface
    9. 9. Electric conductor hole
    10. 10. U-shape member
  • The present invention proposes a household appliance such as a refrigerator, cooking oven or a laundry treatment appliance having a front side with a display panel (1) within a first-side sheet (2), i.e. the front sheet of the household appliance. The display panel (1) may provide various information display means as well as operation control elements to set different operation settings of the appliance. The display panel (1) may be designed as an electronic touch panel as in the case of higher-end products.
  • The display panel (1) having a generally planar surface is fixedly attached to the first-side sheet (2) surface in a display panel slot (3) in an appropriate location. In order for insulating the display panel (1), the rear side of the display panel slot (3) having a second-side surface (4), i.e. a rear surface, is covered by an aluminum foil (not shown) and insulation material is applied over the aluminum foil after a protective frame enclosure (6) is placed around the second-side surface (4) of said display panel slot (3) as will be delineated hereinafter.
  • To this end, in order for avoiding noticeable surface irregularities or unevenness on the front sheet in the areas immediately surrounding the display panel (1), a protective frame enclosure (6) is secured around the surface edges of said display panel slot (3) in the form of an inner frame laterally enclosing the rear side of the display panel slot (3). An aluminum foil is then adhered to the second-side surface (4) such that the second-side surface (4) itself, the protective frame enclosure (6) and part of electric conductors (5) leading to the display panel slot (3) are covered. The aluminum foil is effective in that it eliminates condensation within the display panel slot (3). The insulation material is applied over the aluminum foil at the final stage.
  • Accordingly, the liquid polyurethane is prevented from reaching under the aluminum foil and to areas in the direct vicinity of said display panel slot (3) by filling into the openings around the electric conductors, because a raised edge (7) of the protective frame enclosure (6) under each electric conductor (5) prevents polyurethane flow in the direction of the display panel slot (3). Therefore, the fact that the aluminum foil covering the second-side surface (4) and the protective frame enclosure (6) may still leave small openings around an electric conductor (5) as the electric conductors (5) have a cross-section with a circular shape and the foil may not remain in contact around the entire cross-sectional perimeter thereof, the raised edge (7) of the protective frame enclosure (6), from the sheet inner surface (8) to the electric conductor holes (9), affords an effective barrier against the inward flow of the liquid insulation material.
  • According to the present invention, the protective frame enclosure (6) may be designed as a two-piece unit in the manner that the two pieces as U-shape members (10) are joined to form the protective frame enclosure (6). The two-piece structure of the protective frame enclosure (6) provides that each U-shape member (10) can be separately mounted at a manufacturing stage where connection of the electric conductors (5) to the display panel slot (3) is already realized. This ensures that the protective frame enclosure (6) can be mounted in a very practical fashion.
  • In a nutshell, the present invention proposes an electrical household appliance having a first side with a display panel (1) providing an information display means and operation control elements to set different operation settings of the household appliance and provided within a first-side sheet (2) portion of the household appliance, the display panel (1) being attached to the first-side sheet (2) in a display panel slot (3) having a second-side surface (4) facing approximately 180 degrees away from the first side.
  • A protective frame enclosure (6) is secured around surface edges of the second-side surface (4) of the display panel slot (3), the protective frame enclosure (6) being provided in the form of a frame laterally enclosing a second side of the display panel slot (3).
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, a foil sheet material is adherable to the second-side surface (4) of the display panel slot (3) such that the second-side surface (4) and the protective frame enclosure (6) are covered.
  • According to a further embodiment of the present invention, the protective frame enclosure (6) comprises electric conductor holes (9) allowing passage of at least one electric conductor (5) into the display panel slot (3).
