Definitions
- the present invention relates to a retractable calf rest device, in particular for motor vehicles, comprising a support board movable between a rest position and a position of use.
- a calf rest device is known, for example, from the German patent application DE 100 47 740 A1.
- a calf rest device allows the occupant of a seat to benefit from enhanced comfort on long journeys.
- German patent application DE 100 47 740 A1 discloses a calf rest device also incorporating a footrest part.
- the device can be retracted by pivoting in a hollow zone defined in the front wall of the cellar in front of the front seat of a vehicle.
- a calf rest device which discreetly stores in the idle state, which can be easily operated and has a small footprint. It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a retractable calf rest device, in particular for motor vehicles, comprising a movable support board between a rest position and a position of use, in which the support board is housed in its rest position in a hatch provided in the floor in front of a seat and can be deployed in its position of use by means of a double linkage system.
- the double linkage system comprises a first front pivot link and a second pivot link bottom of the hatch.
- the front pivot connection comprises two links articulated respectively near the lateral edges of the support board.
- the rear pivot link may comprise at least one linkage comprising at least two connecting rods hinged to one another.
- the rear linkage comprises three connecting rods, at least two of which are folded over one another in the rest position of the support board.
- One of the connecting rods can be an extensible jack.
- the linkages are driven by means of electric motors.
- the deployment of the crankshaft system is done manually.
- the linkage comprises a snap mechanism for stopping the support board in several different inclination positions.
- the upper surface of the support board is covered by the same textile as the bottom of the floor with which and aligns in its rest position.
- Fig. 1 shows a partially cutaway side view of a calf rest device arranged in front of a motor vehicle seat
- Fig. 2 shows a partially cutaway side view of a calf rest device in its rest position
- Fig. 3 shows the device according to Fig.2 in an elevated position
- Fig. 4 shows the calf rest device in a position of use.
- Fig. 1 shows an occupant of a seat 4 which uses the calf rest device according to the invention for its comfort.
- the calf rest device is housed in a hatch 2 in the floor 3 of the vehicle. Its deployment mechanism will be explained with reference to Figures 2 to 4.
- Fig. 2 shows the calf rest device in its rest position.
- the device comprises a support board 1 which aligns in this position with the surface of the floor 3.
- the upper surface of the support board 1 is covered with the same carpet as the floor 3.
- the device is barely noticeable in its resting position and does not present aesthetic discomfort.
- the support board 1 is connected to a joint 8 provided at the bottom of the hatch 2 by means of a double linkage system.
- a front pivot connection comprises two connecting rods 9, which are articulated respectively near the lateral edges of the support board 1.
- the rear pivot connection 7 also comprises a linkage 10 which comprises in the embodiment shown 3 connecting rods 10a, 10b and 10c articulating one on the other.
- this linkage can be folded on itself or be deployed to allow a tilting of the support board 1 with a large angle field to adapt the inclination of the support board 1 to an optimal position.
- This jack can be extended to enlarge its length and to allow to further incline the support board 1.
- Fig. 4 shows the calf rest device in its position of use.
- the device may comprise drive motors in combination with rod drive mechanisms known to those skilled in the art and not shown in the figures. It is also possible to provide deployment of the manual calf rest device. This is done in two steps shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4. Firstly, the support board 1 is pulled using means (not shown) which can be of the handle type backwards and upwards. When the front rod 9 reaches its upright position, it rests against a stop. Then, the rear part of the support board 1 can be manually raised to the desired position.
- a snap mechanism is provided to enable the support board 1 to be stopped in various positions determined in advance in a stable manner.
- the calf rest device according to the invention is entirely independent of the seat in front of which it is arranged. It can be used in combination with all available seat models.
