Die Spachtelmasse war nahezu fest und nicht etwa flüssig. Die Spachtelmasse wurde mit einem Spachtel gleichmässig auf mehrere montierte Trägerplatten aufgetragen und verteilt. Anschliessend wurde die Oberfläche mit einem Holzklotz verneben. Durch das Aufbringen mehrer dünner Schichten wurden die die Schrauben überdeckt und die Fugen zwischen mehreren Trägerplatten geschlossen.
