Le tourbillon est un dispositif permettant d'améliorer la précision de la pièce d'horlogerie. Il comprend une cage montée tournante sur le bâti de la pièce d'horlogerie et un balancier monté oscillant dans la cage. Le mouvement d'oscillation du balancier est généralement entretenu par un échappement également monté sur la cage.
